Millard Fillmore was born in Cayuga County, N.Y. and later became a resident of East Aurora and Buffalo. He was a lawyer, local office holder, State Assemblyman, U.S. Congressman, N.Y. Dix was a humanitarian crusader for the mentally ill. She investigated the conditions of the hospitalized insane in many U.S. states and some European countries, and petitioned state and national legislatures for reforms.
